	Message from the Director Welcome to the El Toro High School RBR. If you are new to the program this will be the beginning of a quick four years of fun, excitement, and growth. To our Returning members – It’s up to you to make this year fun, memorable and your best year ever. I know you will work hard and show the proper leadership to achieve our goals this year. We have a very professional staff with years of experience willing to provide instruction and leadership to enhance our program. Jenn Johnson, Stephanie Colby, Amanda Ponce-Erdman and I will all work to make the program successful this year. Color Guard, as a class at school will require the same diligence and attentiveness as any other subject. Color Guard, as an activity will require that "something extra" which only you can offer. This means your extra effort, extra time, and extra responsibility. Here are three things to think about as we begin our new year here at El Toro. You must have pride in everything you do, this means always trying your best and believing in yourself and others. You'll know the meaning of pride when people are applauding you and you feel chills go up your back. It's a feeling you will never forget. Anything worth wanting is worth working for. Being in an outstanding performance unit requires sacrifice on everyone's part. This means to commit yourself to practice a little more, be on time, and plan ahead. You are going to have many experiences and memories from the Regiment, but you must also give of yourself. Every RBR member is important. We all depend on you. Don't let everyone else down by being late, being absent or by not giving respect to everyone – including yourself. High school can be one of the best times of your life. Make the most of it! We have an outstanding high school and a great organization - it's up to you to help continue these traditions. Be proud of the Regiment, help make the Regiment proud of you, and above all - have pride in yourself. With that, lets all have a great time together having fun performing for ourselves, our friends, our parents, and thousands at every performance. Thank you Jim Goodrich Colorguard Director

	Welcome to the Color Guard Page Modern color guard has evolved over the years into a sport that is a form of dance theater that sometimes uses props, along with movement, to express music in the form of movement. They are part of the Royal Blue Regiment in the Fall, then perform as an independent group in the Spring. Modern color guards use flags, sabres, rifles, batons, swing flags, and a few other pieces of equipment, as well as a mix of ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary modern dance. Traditional color guard first began during the English reign around the time of the American Revolution. A band would accompany the soldiers to play music to keep their spirits up and to keep them in beat. Along with the band, they also had a soldier holding a flag with their colors on it. Color guards can be found in most colleges, universities, high schools, middle schools, and independent drum corps. Members of most color guard teams march along with their fellow marching band members. Today the guard uses choreography and equipment for added visual appeal during a marching band show. Usually marching bands and color guards perform during football games at halftime, out of tradition. When in competition, the color guard is sometimes judged in their own caption called “auxiliary.” During a competition, the guard also adds to the overall score of the band. Many color guards also compete independently in such circuits as Winter Guard International (WGI). Jim Goodrich is Color Guard Director at El Toro High School. He has been with the program for 8 years and under his leadership, the student have done well each year.
